Are you looking closely?
Are you looking closely?
Aren’t you only looking at the front?
Have you looked behind it?
Have you looked inside?
Are you overlooking something small?
After all, you have seen almost nothing at all…
This commemorative exhibit for the archive opening will be based on the question “Are you looking closely?” It is an important concept in the archive’s activities and is the theme for this year.
The opening sentence is by Takenobu Igarashi about “looking.” According to Igarashi, this is a cautionary tale for himself, but many people may feel as if they are struck to the core of something by this simple question. We usually take the act of “looking” for granted, but there is always a degree to it. We recognize what is in front of us by setting our own level of “looking,” such as looking (closely), looking (quickly), looking (carefully), and looking (a little). This exhibition is like a laboratory where we can enjoy the passage of thoughts and feelings that begin with the act of “looking.”
The third phase of the exhibition focuses on materials. Works of metal, wood, plastic, clay and stone are showcased.
In the permanent exhibition introducing Takenobu Igarashi’s creative activities, representative works from his days as a designer and after his transition to a sculptor will be displayed along with Igarashi’s words.
